FAQS
How Will I Feel After a Colonic Session?
Like you just took an internal bath; clean, light, increased energy, clarity and a sense of well being are just some of the common responses. Most people feel more relaxed because they hold tension in their gut.
Some people feel fatigue, toxic, sick or weak after a colonic. They fall into the 5% or less category. What does that mean? Generally, that person is more toxic and the gut wall is more compromised. Often their electrolytes are imbalanced and their pH or acid-alkaline balance is upset before the colonic. Some feel tired because the stored waste or toxins irritate the colon, and when they are removed or stirred, the person can feel fatigued from incomplete elimination. These clients usually have environmental illness, chronic fatigue, multiple chemical sensitivity, dehydration, advanced candida or dysbiosis – imbalance in good/bad flora.
At the end of your colonic session, you can carry on with daily routine. For some, the colonic may trigger subsequent bowel movements for the next few hours, but there won't be any uncontrollable urgency or discomfort.
Can I work directly after having a colon hydrotherapy treatment?
Certainly! You can work just as you would after a regular bowel movement.
Will I experience any intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?
Usually not, but since the cleansing will stir up a lot of old debris and toxins, you might experience some minor nausea or fatigue. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to rest and apply a warm heating pad to the abdomen. If you wish, a mild vegetable broth and/or peppermint tea is usually soothing at this time. Any discomfort will usually pass within 24 hours.
Will it be okay to eat after having a colonic?
We suggest that you eat at your normal meal time, and consume a moderate amount of whatever seems gentle and nourishing to you. Just as it doesn't make sense to have your car cleaned and then immediately drive it through mud, eating a meal known to cause trouble in your abdomen directly after a colonic isn't an intelligent choice. Water, vegetable soups or broth, fruit, or juices are the best choice.
Do I need to take acidophilus after a colon cleansing because intestinal flora has been washed out of the colon?
Acidophilus mainly resides in the small intestine. As a colon hydrotherapy session only flushes your large intestine (colon), then this is not really an issue. However, colon hydrotherapy does wash out both beneficial and non-beneficial bacteria from the colon. We at ACM strongly advise you to replace beneficial bacteria in the colon by taking some form of probiotics. At any point in time we carry around 3-4 pounds of bacteria in our intestines. Most people are out of balance with their bacteria and aren't doing much to change that. In the "olden" days we would have been getting beneficial bacteria from fermented foods, raw milk, and foods picked fresh from the garden without being heavily washed or radiated. These days it is rare to meet an individual that is getting bacteria into their system this way. So, we highly recommend to all of our clients, and you, to take probiotics orally on a daily basis whether or not you are getting a colon hydrotherapy session. Buy now online.
What are probiotics?
Residential bacteria form colonies in your gastrointestinal tract, mouth, and vaginal tract. Transient bacteria are travelers that are just passing through. Friendly bacteria, including Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifido-bacterium bifidum, are your body's first line of defense against the potentially harmful microorganisms that you inhale or ingest. Probiotics are another term for these friendly bacteria that live and work in your gastrointestinal tract every day of your life. Think of them as the "home guard". A mighty bacterial army that defends your body against dangerous invaders. Having sufficient numbers of these friendly bacteria in residence can help prevent a wide range of health problems. Not all bacteria flourishes throughout the intestines. For example, Acidophilus loves the small intestine. Bifidum loves the large intestine. ACM offers oral probiotics to allow you to directly put beneficial bacteria into your colon following a colon hydrotherapy session. Buy now online.
Will colonics upset the electrolyte balance?
Electrolytes are minerals in the body (mainly sodium and potassium salts) that maintain the proper electrical charge and pH balance (acid and alkalinity balance) in the various organs and tissues of the body. A major function of the colon is to reabsorb the fluid and electrolytes from the unformed stool that is moving into the colon from the small intestine. After the fluid and electrolytes are reabsorbed and stool is formed, the colon moves the stool into the rectum and out of the body. The majority of the material released during a colonic is formed stool that has already had the fluid and electrolytes removed from it, so the amount lost is very minimal and easily replaced by the body from the food and fluid we ingest. ACM provides replacement electrolytes after every session.
Will a colonic clear up my skin?
Your skin actually breathes and is an important organ of elimination of waste material. Sometimes, if the colon, liver or kidneys are functioning poorly, the skin will be required to make up the difference. Surface eruptions on the skin of various sorts may occur due to toxins being released. Cleansing and healing the colon diminishes the burden placed upon the skin as well as the other organs of elimination: lungs, liver and kidneys. As elimination is accomplished through its proper channels, the skin will very often clear up.
Will colonics hinder my ability to eliminate naturally?
The colonic is a tool intended to be used to create a clean and healthy colon. Some of the benefits of a colonic are to tone the colon muscles, increase muscular action in the colon, and prevent the large intestines from performing sluggishly. Colonics actually promote your natural movement of waste material through your large intestine by increasing peristaltic action. It may take a few days for bowel movements to return after a good colonic. This is when people think they are becoming "dependent" on colonics. One good colonic is worth several bowel movements, so it may take some time for fecal matter to move through the colon to be eliminated. Once a series of colonics is completed, the colon will begin to function like Mother Nature intended, leaving you with the ability to eliminate after every meal.
