FAQS

What is constipation?
Constipation is any form of congestion and is usually accompanied by dehydration. It extends to the cellular level. One bowel movement a day is a sign of constipation, and incomplete elimination is a form of constipation. Symptoms are overweight, fatigue, irritability, mental confusion, bloat, gas, indigestion, lethargy, headaches, migraines, earaches, sinus drainage, allergies, cellulite, anxiety, depression, pessimism, whining, unsatisfied hunger, or poor circulation. Have I named a familiar problem yet! A colon hydrotherapy session begins to hydrate the system and break up the impacted and dehydrated fecal, mucous, and other waste materials that layer the walls of the intestine. Once again, the intestines are capable of receiving and disposing of waste from the body, stopping the backup and re-absorption of toxic materials. Assimilation of nutrients improves and the liver and kidneys are relieved.

Why not use enemas, suppositories or laxatives instead of having a colonic?
The over the counter products are not substitutes for colonics. Enemas are useful for emptying the rectum (the lowest part of the colon). Suppositories are intended to do the same thing. Laxatives, particularly herbal laxatives, are intended to undo the effects of temporary constipation. But the most successful and natural method to cleanse your colon is colon hydrotherapy.

Why can't I just use herbs to clean out my colon?
Herbs can help clean out the colon, but many times are far too harsh and can stress the organs and the body's immune system. They are especially hard on someone who may already have a compromised immune system. The cleansing process should rest the body, not add undue stress to it. On occasion we will recommend that a one time use of an herbal laxative may be used to "kick start" a cleansing program, however, this is usually reserved for a person that has excessively slow bowel elimination

How do I restore my intestinal health?
Hydrate, dissolve, disinfect, soothe, and tone intestinal tissue. The colon hydrotherapy sessions with water and abdominal massage break up this matter within the small and large intestines with excellent results. People attain the most success with colon hydrotherapy when done in conjunction with fluids, exercise and diet.

Is it embarrassing to have a colonic?
No, you will maintain your personal dignity at all times. You will be in a private room with only your therapist, who fully appreciates the sensitivity of the colonic procedure and will help you feel more comfortable. The therapist leaves the room while you gently insert a small tube into the rectum and cover yourself from the waist down.

Is it safe?
Yes. Colon hydrotherapy is one of the most gentle body therapies, and thus extremely safe. Safety is a relevant term, though, that is dependent upon the equipment used and the therapists handling the equipment. ACM uses only top of the line equipment, the LIBBE, with built in safety mechanisms that exceed the FDA standards. The LIBBE is an open system. Rectal nozzles are prepackaged and will only be used once, then disposed. Our staff of colon hydrotherapists are professionally trained, certified and tested on the equipment to ensure they know how to handle the equipment accordingly.  However, for some, colon hydrotherapy is not advised. Click here for a list of the conditions and symptoms that can exclude you from colon hydrotherapy.

An interesting fact is that with new colon therapy equipment treatments are much safer than the common enema!

What will colonics do to the colon?
Specifically, a colonic is used to accomplish the following:
1. Cleanse the Colon: Toxic waste is broken down so it can no longer inhibit assimilation of nutrients or effect elimination. Even debris built up over a long period is gently removed through a series of 12 treatments.  Once impacted material is removed, your colon can begin to work efficiently.
2. Exercises and Strengthens the Colon Muscles: The build up of toxic waste weakens the colon and impairs its functioning. The gentle filling and emptying of the colon improves peristaltic (muscular contraction) activity by which the colon naturally moves material. Thus, colon hydrotherapy will ASSIST the colon to eliminate rather than TAKE OVER the responsibility of elimination.
3. Reshapes the Colon: When poisonous waste exists in the colon, it tends to alter the shape, which in turn causes more problems.  The gentle flow of warm water helps to eliminate bulging pockets of waste and narrowed, spastic constrictions, finally enabling the colon to resume its natural shape.
4. Stimulates Reflex Points: Every system and organ of the body is connected to the colon by reflex points. Colonics stimulate these points, thereby affecting the corresponding body parts by allowing every system (except the urinary tract) to dump into the colon where their toxins are eliminated.

How can I tell if I have toxic material in my colon?
This condition is prevalent in all civilized societies, and particularly in the American diet and lifestyle. Common signs include: headaches, backaches, constipation, fatigue, bad breath, body odor, irritability, confusion, skin problems, abdominal gas, bloating, diarrhea, sciatic pain, and so forth.  As you can see, intestinal toxicity is a part of many people's everyday experience.

It sounds to me as though intestinal toxicity is a common condition.

Yes it is, but toxicity is not limited to just the colon.  Toxic material is found throughout the body, particularly in fat tissue, joints, arteries, muscles, liver, etc. Colonics effectively eliminate large quantities of toxic wastes, affecting the condition of the entire body.
